Photogrametry (Image Based Modeling)

Photogrammetry or Image-Based Modeling rely on a set of two-dimensional images of a scene (building or artifact) captured by digital camera to generate a three-dimensional model. After that the 3D model can be render or further refined using more traditional 3D modeling methods in order to achieve more realistic or even photorealistic renders.

Image Based Modeling offers an effective, inexpensive and fast means of creating three dimensional data about sites, buildings, artifacts and even people. The increasing use of 3D models in virtual heritage world gives new opportunities for photogrammetry due to skipping the manual modeling stage.
